This website is currently supporting two incredible projects.
Please give to either or both.
The webinar launch was a fundraiser for Earthseed Land Collective.
This website is raising funds for the Cypress Fund's Giving Project.
This is the first project of its kind in the U.S. South. The project is built on the giving circle model where people get together in a group to donate their own money or time to a pooled fund, deciding together where to give it. This model is built on traditions dating back hundreds of years to mutual aid societies in and by communities that could not easily access money – women, African-American and immigrant communities. People have used this model to pay for rent, business start-ups, churches, college funds. This model has fulfilled all kinds of dreams as people without much figured out how to build their possibilities by pooling their resources.
The Cypress Fund is a people-powered small foundation created in 2019 by a team of organizers and donors rooted in North and South Carolina. I’m part of a cohort of about 20 people from widely divergent race, gender, and class backgrounds. We come from across the Carolinas with a commitment to raising money from our networks to expand our giving power to support community-based efforts for racial and social justice, particularly those overlooked or too grassroots for traditional funders. The idea is that as a group, we raise the money that will be given, encourage people and organizations doing solid and underfunded community racial and social justice work to apply, and make decisions collectively about who will receive the funds. In this round of the Giving Project, we are raising money to fund community-based proposals - the link will take you to a page that describes the proposal criteria) that support work on land justice and indigenous sovereignty, gender and reproductive justice, worker-led efforts for better pay and working conditions, environmental justice, Black liberation and transformation of our prison system.
